The PGA Championship is Here in Atlanta & at The Oaks!

Good morning from The Oaks Course!!

Can you feel that?? The tense competition in the air??   If you can't then you are just missing out! What a great day for golf?!  Georgia is ranked number 8 on the list by Golf magazine for states to play amazing golf and to be honest - we should be number 1.  Let's be honest here - we have the prestigious Masters Tournament about an hour east from The Oaks in Augusta and this year we are honored to host the PGA Championship in Atlanta which is right around the 285 bend from us! Who could ask for a better golfing state??
This week for my blog post - I am going to touch on the tournaments and The PGA Championship!

We here at The Oaks Course are extremely lucky to have such the opportunity to host tournaments of our own with conditions like the PGA Championship or better.  Our Oaks Invitational will be fast and firm for the players and we can't wait for the big event!  With a field that is going to be full of excitement and competition for any handicap golfer - The Oaks Course is preparing THE BIG TOURNAMENT!  Don't miss out on a pair of Adidas Golf Shoes with your entry and the chance to win a Bridgestone Staff Bag, Scotty Cameron Putters and a custom pro tour pair of Adidas Golf Shoes!  Who wouldn't want to come play and win?!  The Invitational is the time to show us what you got because The Oaks Course is laying it all out on the table!

We wouldn't be able to throw out a smashing tournament if it wasn't for the men who work so diligently at The Oaks Course day after day.  The Turf Care staff at The Oaks Course is one to be proud of and deserve a special thank you daily for their extremely hard work.  The Oaks Course is fortunate to have such a dedicated staff with even more dedicated leaders guiding them to make our course stand out.  Both of our incredible leaders have been highlighted this week - not just by us but by both of our local newspapers.

The first is Mr. Ron Riley - Ron is a long time employee with The Oaks Course who is currently battling kidney failure and fighting for his chance to receive a new kidney.  Ron is the Equipment Technician here at The Oaks Course and has never wavered from his duties.  Ron one of the beneficiaries of The Oaks Invitational; the other beneficiary is The Kidney Foundation.  The tournament is not only big because of the prizes & winnings, but it is a big event for The Oaks and close to home to help one of our own.
Here is the link for the article about Ron - check it out and come play!

The second highlighted employee this week is Mr. Curtis Singleton - Curtis is our Head Superintendent here at The Oaks.   Curtis is someone who is always thinking about the next move to make The Oaks a better place.  With a nickname of "Fancy" (per your author of this blog), he is one who is innovative, creative and crafty within in his profession.  Curtis has the gift of making the course challenging, but at the same time relaxing for a leisurely golfer.  Curtis has been recognized this week for volunteering his time at The PGA Championship on the grounds crew.  Check out his article here !
This is a week of champions not only at The PGA, but at The Oaks Course too.  Our Champions aren't necessarily shooting 62 daily or have big sponsors such as Nike, but they are guys who enjoy the game and giving the best experience out on the course.

So, while watching the PGA Championship this week - take a look at the landscape - notice how clean & precise every inch of the course is & remember there is an Equipment Technician & a Superintendent to thank.

Come visit The Oaks Course - our greens are fabulous!  Check our website for specials & deals today!

PS - Who are you rooting for this week in the PGA??
My personal favorites - Phil Mickelson, Matteo Manassero, Graeam McDowell.

Have a great weekend!!

Hot News & Hot Weather!

Hello All!

We are half way through June and it has been a warm one!  We love the summertime at The Oaks for many reasons - not just the hot weather, but our favorite golfers - the kids are back on the course and our greens are at their absolute best!

The past two weeks at The Oaks had back what was missing for the past few months - THE KIDS!  The Newton County Recreation Department has teamed up with the The Oaks once again to host what is one of my favorite activities of the year.  Our four day kids camp starts bright and early in the morning and lasts until lunch time.  The kids not only get great advice and lessons from PGA Pro Andy Bowman, but they get to tour the facility, visit the turf care fellows and get familiar with the course as a whole.

Each summer head golf pro Andy Bowman has four week long camps and this summer he has added Friday Day Camps for Intermediate Juniors.  The Friday camps will be available for golfers who are comfortable walking the course and knowing the game more than a beginner status.

Here are a few photos of the kids look for more updates on our Facebook page

Summertime not only means kids and heat but also perfect greens here at The Oaks! Here is an snippet about our greens during the summer from our Superintendent, Curtis Singleton.
"With our Champion greens and Hybrid Bermuda tees, fairways and rough - The Oaks really peaks during the summer months.  The warm season grasses we have here at The Oaks thrive during the heat of summer.  Long sunny days help us to provide beautiful tees, lush fairways and fast smooth greens!  Our greens are soaking up this summer sun and improving daily!  Come out and enjoy the sun and golf!"

Even though this summer is hot - hot - our greens are moving fast and smoother than ever!  Don't pass up on the chance to play our course!  We have great early morning rates and evening times for you to beat the heat!

Until next time - stay cool and swing straight!

Field Trip to Bridgestone Practice Facility

Hello!

The sun is still shining at The Oaks Course this afternoon and we have had a great day!!

This entry was a fun one to write and experience with our members at The Oaks.  Luckily The Oaks is located Covington, Georgia which is also the home to Bridgestone Golf.  Bridgestone is the number one ball fitter in the world with a highly respected reputation in the golf industry.

This past week The Oaks Course members were graciously invited to the Bridgestone Practice Facility to test some balls for the day.  We love that we have a great relationship with Bridgestone that they can call on us for anything they need.  This particular event they needed two groups of five players with single digit handicaps.

Each group of guys arrived to the Bridgestone Practice Facility with an awed look of all the balls, clubs and more set up inside the building.  Each Oaks member was asked to hit a few different balls with a 6 and 9 iron, use their driver on the net and chip and put on the putting green area.  While the temperature was a sweltering 97 degrees outside the men testing were even hotter swing the demo balls down the fairway.  The Bridgestone observer would reset the ball each time while another manned a computer calculating every move within each swing.

The gentlemen were not only doing Bridgestone a favor by testing a few prototype balls for their research, but they each received feedback on their respective swing speeds, back spin information and the correct Bridgestone ball that suits each of their golf profile the best.

The day ended with a nice cold cup of water and more than enough parting gifts from a everyone's favorite golf brand!  So an extra big thanks to Bridgestone again for being so kind to invite us to test for the day!  What an honor to do so and we can't wait to come back again!
Hope you like the photos above and for the entire album head to our Facebook page www.facebook.com/theoaksgolfcourse

New Directions

Happy Friday from The Oaks!

This week has been an amazing!  We faced new weather conditions- it finally became "summertime" in Georgia or as many people say the pre-summer experience here.  We realized over night that summer is here and we are ready for a great golfing summer!  Our staff also educated themselves on not only the new climate, but new approaches of being the best staff around!  We each took part in an outstanding staff training that will hopefully make your experience the best yet!

Along with the new education in staff training we have also been heading in new directions virtually.   The Oaks Course is just like every other golf course with balls, tees, a pro shop, a dining facility, etc. but we KNOW we stand apart on each of those features and that we are in fact above and beyond the competition.  We know we accomplish each of those on property, but do we do stand out on your computer?
Do we offer the highest quality in browsing the page, access to our information, quality images and detail?

We would love to know the answers to the following questions...
How often do you view our website?
Do you book your tee times on our website?  If no, then where?
Overall, do you like our new website?
Are there any changes or suggestions you would make to our website?

The Oaks Course webpage is currently a work in progress.  We have made changes and adjustments daily to accommodate our users.  We are trying new directions within our page such as the blog, the Google calendar, video footage and so much more.

Our ultimate goal is NEVER to become your standard course with balls, tees, a pro shop and so on...but to be the golf course with the highest quality of service, outstanding grounds and greens, the best choice of balls and tees, the most delicious food with a touch of technology to keep you up to date with everything that we offer you!

Please leave a comment about your ideas of our new blog, webpage and more!
